The Theater, one of the largest of its type in Spain, was built at the end of the century I a.C, the inauguration maybe coninciding with the presence of Augusto's grandson, Gaius Caesar in Carthago-nova in the year 4 B.C. It had a seating capacity of about 6.000 people.
Diverse materials are used as:

- Travertino coming from Mula.
- Calcareous gray of the area of Mar Menor.
- Marbles of the circle of Carrara and of Cabezo Gordo (Torre Pacheco)
- Gritty yellow of the town well-known cartagenaera of Canteras.

General characteristics

The Theater has a diameter of 87.90 mts. And is divided in sectors by 5 radial stairways for access to the seets: 13 inferior tiers conform the 'inma cavea', separated by a small corridor ('praecintio') of the 5 tiers of the stocking cavea and the 6 tiers of work of the 'summa cavea', also marked by a 2ª and bigger 'praecintio'. Inside the old Cathedral and in the road Calle Sepulcro, the wall perimetral is marking a global difference between 17 and 19 M.
